The Naturals follows Cassie Hobbs as she is recruited into a classified FBI program which utilizes teenagers with enhanced “natural” abilities to solve cold cases. The squad breakdown is as follows: Cassie and Dean are profilers, Michael reads emotions, Lia is a human lie detector and Sloan is the computer whiz. The team is led by FBI Agents and are under the protection of a former serviceman.

When a new case gets super crazy, the FBI goes to their secret weapons for help. But each of them have their own skeletons in the closet, and nothing is as unconnected as it seems.

This series is literally YA Criminal Minds. The five main characters have such incredible abilities alongside such developed characterization that it’s impossible to not love all of them. The interactions are golden and the evolving relationships between all of them are so much fun to watch. The writing is simplistic yet engaging and draws you in with sneak peeks at the killers’ mind throughout the story, which only serves to make the story more immersive.

The plots of the novels are just a step above basic, but it doesn’t detract from the fun twists and turns along the way. The real gems of this series are the characters. The Naturals Squad is a family you’ll wish you could join, and watching them grow up and come into their own is as rewarding as it is entertaining.
