NA is a fairly new (pardon the pun) genre, but it’s seemingly blown up in recent years. There’s so many books, it can be hard to figure out which are good and which are just too damn cringy. So here’s five of my favorite New Adult books, which are also series with companions, so there’s even more smut to go around! (Advisory for sexually explicit content)
This is the first of three companion novels. It follows Clem, an unintentional and secret bestselling author just trying to get through college. Since her first hit was based on her own life, she recruits attractive RA Gavin for some more “life experience,” and things take off from there. This really turns into an ensemble cast, but Clem and Gavin are def two of my favorite NA characters. Swooning is sure to be a constant with this one.
Same author as Dearest Clementine, totally different vibe. You know the movie “Life as We Know It” with Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel, where they have to raise their friends’ child after her parents pass away? This is pretty much the NA version of that, with lots of sexual tension and an adorable child to boot. This is a standalone, with no companions.
Ignore this cheesy AF cover; the story within is so great! In All Lined Up, we follow dancer Dallas, who has lived and breathed football – against her will – as the daughter of a head coach. To top it off, her ex was a quarterback. So she’s sworn off football players and anything to do with them When she goes off to college (where her dad coaches), she finds an immediate connection with Carson – the rookie quarterback. Whoops. This has two companions and a third will be released soon.
Jennifer Armentrout/J. Lynn is one of the absolute BEST New Adult authors out there. Wait for you is the first in a series of companions and follows Avery and Cam as they fall for each other. Avery is the survivor of sexual assault, so much of the plot revolves around her healing and learning to trust again. With that said, trigger warning for mentions of rape. But this series as a whole is absolutely fantastic. I’ve never loved so many characters in one series!
This series isn’t as sexually explicit as the others, but it definitely gets hot and heavy. The book follows Emily, who visits her bike club member father for the summer, and Oz, who’s trying to get into the club. Drama within their families and the tension between them starts to build, and in the end, not everyone can be safe.
What are some of your favorite NA books/series? Let me know in the comments! As always, the covers are linked to the Goodreads pages!
